The Johnson County CLIMB (Community Leadership Involvement Means a Better Community) Program is held each year in the fall.  Up and coming leaders from across Johnson County come together to learn about the county and all that it has to offer. Members represent the local business community, the University of Central Missouri, Whiteman Air Force Base, organizations and agencies, and more. We hope your organization will want to be represented and have a part of shaping the future leaders of Johnson County!

Program Description: CLIMB is an eleven week program designed to encourage citizens in Johnson County to become involved in community affairs.  This program improves the skills participants need in order to assume community leadership responsibilities.

Program Expectations: As a group, each CLIMB class is asked to organize a group fundraiser to benefit future CLIMB classes and a community involvement activity to benefit an area philanthropic or charitable organization.  As an individual, each CLIMB participant is asked to make a one year volunteer commitment with the philanthropic or charitable organization of his/her choice.

Policy on Non-Completion: A participant may not graduate having missed the Retreat or a total of 3 full days of the program.

This is an excellent opportunity to become more involved in the local community and grow one’s professional network. CLIMB provides tremendous networking opportunities and helps bring together rising leaders from Johnson County’s integral stakeholders.

Leadership In Practice

The Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce knows the best way to develop leadership skills is to practice, practice, practice. For four days each June, that’s exactly what Missouri’s brightest freshmen and sophomore student leaders do in Leadership in Practice — a hands-on program that imparts real world knowledge to help Missouri’s youth engage, inspire and lead.

Students from around the state — from rural, suburban and urban schools — come together to work as a team to solve real world problems in a fun, engaging environment. The program is set amidst the beautiful backdrop of historic Westminster College, where principles of leadership were formed in 1946 when Sir. Winston Churchill delivered the famous “Iron Curtain” speech.

Leadership in Practice is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to learn the characteristics of leadership and professionalism so they can directly apply those skills in their own lives when they return to their schools and communities.

The program includes:

  • Presentations by top business and civic leaders
  • Challenging simulations and activities
  • Small group discussions
  • Strong focus on personal growth

The program covers five focus areas:

  • Global leadership
  • Civic leadership
  • Economic leadership
  • Ethical leadership
  • Personal leadership
