Growth & Expansion

Building on our rich history, Warrensburg is positioning itself for a
bright future and growing faster than ever. In cooperation with the
economic development partners of the City of Warrensburg,
Warrensburg Main Street, The Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of
Commerce, and the Johnson County Economic Development
Corporation, several projects have recently been initiated to help the
community prepare for future growth.
Whether you’re looking for small intimate boutiques, major discount
stores or unique antique shops, the Warrensburg business community
offers it all. There are more than 70 restaurants featuring a variety of
dining styles, hotels, bed and breakfasts, and a bowling alley at
University of Central Missouri, and the Hawthorne Development
project includes a movie theater, MC Sports, Aldi’s and is a rapidly
developing area. Retail centers and individual outlets are located
throughout Warrensburg.
Historic downtown provides an especially pleasant shopping environment
with its ornate 19th-century architecture, much of which is being
re-energized under the leadership of Warrensburg Main Street Inc., a
non-profit organization working to revitalize and preserve downtown. The
four points of the Main Street approach work together to build a sustainable
and complete community revitalization effort. It works for historic
preservation through economic development, believing that preservation
happens naturally if businesses are economically stable. It also provides
access to national information networks and technical assistance, as well as
helping with business retention, expansion and recruitment. Visit
Warrensburg Main Street Inc. at www.warrensburgmainstreet.com.

Warrensburg’s heartland work ethic and community pride make it a great
place to do business. Several local companies have grown to national
and international prominence aided by the exceptional workforce and
affordable business climate. This has helped to create a diversified job
base that provides the area with a secure and growing economy.
In the public sector, major employers include the University of Central
Missouri with 1,706 faculty and staff members; and nearby Whiteman
Air Force Base with over approximately 7,682 civilian and uniformed
personnel on its payroll. Private firms have contributed to the area’s
high employment rate and bright economic outlook.
The retention and expansion of existing employers, entrepreneurs and
businesses throughout Johnson County are the top priorities of the Johnson
County Economic Development Corporation (JCEDC). New and
expanding businesses and entrepreneurs looking for free confidential site
selection assistance, or information on Johnson County’s excellent business
climate, workforce, available buildings, sites, financing and incentives can

Contributing to the pool of trained, job-ready employees, the Johnson

Through their Employment Services program, JCBS support the
individuals they serve in increasing their self-sufficiency and financial
