A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan is an advanced imaging test that reveals the metabolic and biochemical function of tissues and organs. By using a small amount of radioactive tracer, PET scans can identify atypical metabolic activity often before it appears on other imaging tests such as CT scans. This makes PET scans a powerful tool in detecting and monitoring a wide range of conditions, including cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders.
Western Missouri Medical Center is now the only hospital in our region to house an on-site PET machine, bringing world class technology closer to home for patients and families.
