Meeting Growth Demands

The City of Warrensburg is meeting the challenge of providing quality services while anticipating new demands and expansion. Average population growth is about 3 percent a year and expectations for improved city services have increased. Programs are in place to provide new services and enhance those needing improvement.

Warrensburg Main Street

Warrensburg has entered into the Main Street Inc. program to revitalize its historic downtown district. The Missouri Main Street Program began in 1989 and remains the state’s first and only comprehensive downtown revitalization program. Since the state program’s inception, participating downtowns have created over 560 new businesses and 1,700 new jobs with over 530 building renovations and $59,000,000 reinvested in the downtown areas.

Warrensburg was designated a "Pilot Program" by the state in 1996 and has assisted numerous businesses improve their business and surroundings since that time. The local volunteer driven organization has enjoyed the addition of four new businesses, ten new jobs and assisted in fourteen facade improvements totaling $73,000 reinvested. Volunteers have logged 1431 hours. The four areas of concentration for the organization are Promotions, Design, Organization and Economic Restructuring. commty2.jpg (12496 bytes)In addition, the city provided funds toward establishing the Johnson County Economic Development Corporation and invested in the refurbishing of Warrensburg’s historic railroad depot.  A $6.2 million community center was built a few years ago, which includes a swimming pool and senior center.  A planned 160-acre regional park will double the existing space available for outdoor recreation.

Incorporated 150 years ago, Warrensburg adopted the council/manager form of government in 1957. Its five council members are elected at large, and one member is elected internally to serve as mayor.
