The greater Warrensburg area is home to many galleries and museums that
are homes to permanent, as well as temporary exhibits.
Agriculture Building

The Agriculture Building houses
farm machinery and artifacts concerning the development of farm machinery.
The building also contains artifacts pertaining to grain elevators from
all around the county and a general
historical view of agriculture and industry in the county. Hours are
Monday-Saturday 1-4 p.m. Admission is $3.00 - members and students are
free.
The University of Central

This museum is located on the
first floor of the James C.
Kirkpatrick Library in room 1470. The museum offers a variety of exhibits
that focus on Central History and Natural History. Open Monday-Friday from
9 a.m.-4 p.m. when the University is in session. Free Admission.
The University of Central Missouri Art
Center Gallery

This Gallery is located on the
University of Central Missouri campus in the Art Center Building. The
gallery consists of works by outside artists as well as exhibition spaces
filled with student works. Open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday
10 a.m.-2 p.m. when the University is in session. Free Admission.
Historic Johnson County Courthouse

This historic 1838 courthouse was
the site of the famous 1870 Old Drum Trial that coined the phrase,
"Man’s best friend is his dog." The courthouse is one of the
few examples of Federal Style architecture west of the Mississippi River.
This stucco covered brick building was restored to its former beauty,
according to original plans, during the early 1960’s. The courthouse has
been the scene of a pre-civil war murder, a daring raid for the purpose of
stealing/preserving the county records throughout the war between the
states, and the Trial of Old Drum.
Hours are Monday - Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $3.00, members and
students are free.
Mary Miller Smiser Heritage Library

This library was built in 1985 to
house a collection of materials concerning county history, family
genealogy, and newspapers. The library is staffed by volunteers who
organize and catalog documents, photos,
and articles as they arrive and assist visitors in their research. In the
same building are artifacts pertaining to the early development of the
county by Missouri pioneers. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 1-4
p.m. Admission is $3.00, members and students are free.
Nature Central

Nature Central is an environmental education project initiated by the
University of Central Missouri Department of Biology and funded by
Central Missouri State University and the Missouri Department of
Conservation's WCR fund.
One Room School

The One Room School represents a
long tradition of rural education in Johnson County. In 1995, the One Room
School was moved from Elm, Missouri to the Historical Society grounds to
represent and to memorialize all of the teachers and students of one room
schools in Johnson County. Built in 1911, the school was originally used
as a Subscription High School. Later a second story was removed and
elementary students attended this school until 1960. Hours are Monday
through Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $3.00, members and students
are free.
